HENRY REPEATING ARMS – BIG BOY STEEL CARBINE .45 COLT SIDE GATE
The Big Boy Steel Side Gate hangs its 20″ or 16.5″ round barrel and checkered walnut furniture on a matte-finished blued steel frame that’s drilled & tapped for optional scope mounts, and uses the same adjustable Western-style sights as the standard Big Boy, with the same sliding transfer bar “safety” system in its hammer.
Most of the weight reduction is due to the steel frame being lighter than a brass equivalent, to begin with, and less steel in the thinner barrel walls than an octagon version. To make sure the steel Big Boy remains comfortable on the shoulder in any of its three calibers, the .357 Magnum/.38 Special, .44 Magnum/.44 Special, and .45 Colt; we employ a black solid rubber recoil cushion. For hands-free trekking up or down, it wears sling swivel studs; and we’ve also incorporated a rifle-style fore-end cap instead of the typical carbine-type barrel band.
For extra adaptability, we introduced a side loading gate and preserved the detachable tube magazine for fast top-offs, and rapid, safe emptying. A wonderful option for the new straight-walled cartridge hunting rules in Ohio, Indiana, Southern Michigan, and those pending in other places; with its muted no-spook-em dark finish and easy-to-maneuver proportions, we’ve got that fresh new deer rifle you’ve been searching for right here.
Big Boy Steel Side Gate.44 Mag/Spl, .45 Colt, .357 Mag/.38 Spl | Made of Steel, Now In Rifle And Carbine
While we are fond of the brass tradition begun by B.T. Henry’s 1860 rifle, we do understand that today’s hunter may prefer something a shade lighter on the mountain, and the Big Boy Steel Side Gate carries on the same brush gun appeal of the brass-framed Big Boys in its overall configuration, but with upgraded features for the modern hunter, while weighing in 1.68lbs. less than its cousin.
These Side Gate variants are available in .357 Mag/.38 Special, .44 Mag/.44 Special, and .45 Colt, with either a conventional 20” round barrel and ordinary lever, or a compact 16.5” round barrel with a large-loop lever for gloved cold-weather operation and bonus style points.
Both versions include beautiful checkering on the genuine American walnut fore-end and straight-wrist stock, range-adjustable semi-buckhorn rear and brass bead front sights, an automated in-hammer transfer bar safety, and our best-of-both-worlds side loading gate and detachable tube magazine layout. Rifles contain ten rounds in the tube, while carbines store seven.
Together with a dependable revolver in the same caliber, these rifles and carbines make the most of Cowboy Logistics, decreasing the weight of the ammo necessary on the road. They fit saddle scabbards snugly, with the gentler report of pistol-caliber rounds being easier on the horse ears. The carbine makes as useful a trail buddy in deep wooded vegetation as it does in off-road cars and trucks.
Traditional in appearance, pistol-caliber Big Boys are drilled and tapped for optic mounting for fast target acquisition with red dots and greater reach with magnified scopes. Long barrels give a large velocity gain with Magnum pistol rounds, reaching the standard rifle levels while enabling more tube magazine capacity and shorter lever throws due to shorter cases. Smooth, reliable actions and natural accuracy of Henry barrels add up to delightful handling and successful performance on game and paper targets equally.
A fantastic option for straight-walled cartridge hunting rules in Ohio, Indiana, Southern Michigan, and those pending in other locations; with its muted no-spook-em dark finish and easy-to-maneuver proportions, we’ve got that fresh new deer rifle you’ve been searching for right here. The Big Boy Steel is also available in .327 Fed Mag and .41 Mag without a side loading gate. Click Here to Learn More.
