Semi-Automatic Guns For Sale
Semi-automatic rifles are self-loading rifles that shoot one bullet with each trigger stroke. By contrast, a bolt-action rifle needs the operator to manually cycle the bolt before firing a second time, but a fully automatic weapon will continue to shoot until the trigger is released. The majority of contemporary automatic rifles use selective firing, which allows the operator to fire semi-automatically if desired.
History of Semi-Automatic Guns For Sale
Ferdinand Mannlicher is credited with designing the first recoil-operated semi-automatic rifle in 1885, following up on work began in 1883. The Model 85 and Mannlicher Variants 91, 93, and 95 rifles were also non-gas driven semi-automatic models.
Due to inherent issues with the black powder used in their cartridges (based on the Austrian 1158mmR M/77), such as insufficient velocity and excessive fouling, the designs were fatally flawed and never progressed beyond the conceptual/prototype stage; automatic firearms would become feasible only after smokeless powder became widely available.
Mannlicher's innovations, however, were the forerunners of automatic rifles and laid the groundwork for a number of subsequent weapons, including Browning machine guns (M1917, M1919, and M2) and the Lewis gun. Additionally, beginning in the early 1890s and continuing until his death in 1904, Mannlicher manufactured smokeless powder variants of his firearms.
